Sergeants Snell and Jenkinson graduate from EMU School of Police Staff and Command
The Novi Police Department is pleased to announce the graduation of Sergeant Steven Snell and Sergeant Daniel Jenkinson from the 39th class of the School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program at Eastern Michigan University on Friday, October 13.
Sergeants Snell and Jenkinson joined 50 law enforcement professionals representing 39 different communities from throughout Michigan in the nine-month program. Sergeant Snell completed the program, earning the research excellence award, and Sergeant Jenkinson finished second overall in academic achievements.
"The SPSC program provides hands-on leadership that can be brought back to the department," said Sergeant Snell.
The School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program provides upper-level academic instruction in a total of five core or mandatory blocks of instruction and utilizes over 30 additional optional blocks of instruction during each session. Major topics of study include Leadership Development, Planning and Decision Making, Human Resource Management, Administration of the Police Agency, and Critical Incidents and Homeland Security. The program has graduated over 2,100 students since its creation in 1985.
"I am extremely proud of both Sergeant Snell and Jenkinson's professional accomplishments and look forward to their leadership development," said Novi Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police Erick W. Zinser. "The Staff and Command program prepares our team with the education and training needed to lead the Novi Police Department while enhancing public trust throughout our community."
Sergeant Snell began his career with the Novi Police Department in 2013. He was a departmental instructor for Fair and Impartial Policing and Mobile Field Force before being promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2020.
Sergeant Jenkinson began his career with the Novi Police Department in 2007. During his time with the Novi Police Department, Sergeant Jenkinson has held numerous assignments, including Field Training Officer and Response to Resistance Instructor, prior to his promotion to the rank of sergeant in 2020.
Sergeant Jenkinson said, "I am very proud of my accomplishment and excited to apply new leadership skills throughout the organization."
