Kendo (fencing) tournament coming to Novi in February

NOVI, MI - On February 19, 2012, from 9 - 5, the Detroit Kendo Dojo
will be hosting its 14th Annual Detroit Open Kendo Tournament. This
event will take place at Novi High School and has, since its
inception, drawn hundreds of individuals from across the United
States, Canada and Japan to southeastern Michigan.
This year, a very special guest from
Japan, Mr. Takashi Futagoishi (photo above) is expected to attend.
He is the 2006 8 Dan Champion, and an All Japan Championship and World Kendo Championship
competitor.
The event is open to the public, free
of charge.
The Detroit Kendo Dojo is a
non-profit organization dedicated to creating learning opportunities
to younger generations through instruction in the art of Japanese
fencing, or kendo, as well as enhancing cross-cultural understanding
and relationships. Based out of Novi, they have weekly practices at
