Novi Lacrosse Sinks the River Rats 13-9
May 10, 2008 by Lynda Favorite

The Novi Wildcats Varsity Lacrosse Team sent the Ann Arbor Huron River Rats swimming upstream with a 13-9 victory Saturday at Novi Stadium. It was a sunny Senior Recognition Day for the 6 graduating Wildcats; Craig Howell, George Riegel, Alex Willer, Eric Guttman, Kyle Simone, and Zach Erickson. These young men are talented lacrosse players, team leaders, and outstanding role models for the rest of their team.

So it was fitting that Senior Craig Howell came out shooting to score the first goal of the match. This put the Wildcats ahead in the game and they never looked back. Matt Mandeville also scored to make the score 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. Junior Goalie Kody Tipton kept AA off the scoreboard during the quarter.

The second quarter began with Huron scoring 2 quick goals to tie but the Wildcats answered with four goals of their own. Defenseman Andrew Donatto set up goal #4 by outrunning his opponents across the field and sending it to #22 Mandeville who sent it down the pipe. During the game Nathan Haynes, Mandeville, and Howell had 4 goals each and Alex Willer also put one in the net. Assists came from Haynes, Howell, Mandeville, and Paul Favorite.

Joe Burris, Aeryk Kuna, Tom Machisak, Sean Murphy, Nick Gardner, and Dillon Good were also instrumental in the ‘Cats victory. Ground balls and sharp passes made the difference.

With a 12-1 record, the #6 ranked Wildcats will travel to the ‘other’ Ann Arbor High School on Wednesday to face the #2 Pioneers. The final home game for the ‘Cats will be Thursday May 15 at 6:30pm against South Lyon Lions for the KVC title.
