  Wildcats Sink Lakeland 4-0
12/6/07 Submitted to Novi.org

After a heartbreaking KVC loss to Howell last Friday night by the score of
2 - 1, the Wildcats came back on Wednesday night in front of a home crowd and shutdown Lakeland 4-0. Getting his first shutout of the season was senior goaltender, Kevin Michalzuk, shutting down the Eagles with several outstanding saves on the night.

Opening the scoring for the Cats with a blistering shot from the point on a power play was senior defenseman, Mark Bernier. Assisting on the Bernier goal were senior’s Adam Szajner and Tom Dircks.

The second period saw two more Wildcat goals coming at the 13:29 and 3:28 marks. Scoring the second goal of the evening was senior Art Ferriss (unassisted). The third goal was notched by sophomore Tyler Perpich with the assist going to senior Craig Howell. The final tally of the night came from sophomore Tyler Manning with assists credited to Szajner and junior Shane McCusker.

“Solid defensive play, great goaltending and holding the Eagles to less than 20 shots while still killing off ten penalties during the game was a major key to our success,” said assistant coach Jim Lewis. “Coach Krygier has worked very hard in practice on both our power play and penalty kill systems and it’s really paying off.”

The Wildcats are now 3-3 overall for the season, 3-1 in KVC action.

Novi takes on Northville in a rare Friday evening game. Face-off is 6:00 p.m. at the Novi Ice Arena.
