  Wildcats Sink Pirates 2-1
11/29/07 Submitted to Novi.org

In their second KVC contest of the season, the Novi Hockey Wildcats defeated the Pinckney Pirates Wednesday night by the score of 2-1, leaving the Cats undefeated in KVC play.

The Wildcats clearly dominated the game, out-shooting the Pirates in every period. Opening the scoring for Novi was senior Adam Szajner less than one minute into the game. Assisting on Szajner’s goal were senior’s Art Ferriss and Tom Dircks.

The score remained 1-0 until the 3:32 mark of the second period when senior Robbie Knurek bounced in a shot off the goalie from the side of the net to make the score 2-0 heading into the third and final period. A fluky goal that came after a dump-in shot by Pinckney that bounced off a bad zamboni door and deflected back out in front of the Novi net resulting in a chipped in shot over the shoulder of goaltender Kevin Michalzuk with only 4:37 left in the game. That gave the Pirates a fleeting hope of salvaging a tie in the game.

Tough defense and an outstanding highlight glove save by Michalzuk late in the game shut the door on the Pirates for good.

The Cats travel to Howell for another away game on Friday night.
