Wildcat Inline defeats
the Howell
Highlanders 7-3 in inaugural game
4/14/2006 by Scott Olson and Dave Zarem
Getting a new high school
sports program and team off the ground isn't easy. Novi High School
recently started up Inline Hockey as a Varsity sport, and, after getting
thorough a tough 40 player tryout, the new Novi Wildcat Inline squad was
ready for their inaugural season and game at the Total Sports complex in
Wixom Thursday evening.
With warm weather outside, it was time to melt the ice as the newest
Wildcats skated to their first victory. It was a historic 7-3 victory
over Kensington Valley Conference rival Howell - the first inline hockey
game and victory for Novi High School.
Novi looked sharp, but had a short bench due to Spring Break having
started the previous day. Greg Morisette lead the way with 2 goals
and a helper. Jeff Donohue also had a 3 point night.
Head Coach John Smith noted, "we're pleased with getting the school's
first win after only 2 practices, and look forward to improving the team
as the season progresses."
They'll have plenty of opportunities after Spring Break. The Wildcats
take to the rink against Walled Lake Central on Sunday, April 23rd, then
Novi Catholic Central on Thursday, April 27th.
The 'Cats play just about every Thursday and Sunday through mid-May.
Then, tournaments and playoffs begin. All the games are at Total
Sports in Wixom.
Stop by and check out Novi's newest Varsity sport!
