Coach Robert Smith honored

Veteran Coach Robert Smith of the Novi
High School Men’s Cross Country Team has been named the Oakland County
2006 Cross Country Coach of the Year.
His Wildcats were the Oakland County Champions, Regional Champions, and
Runners-up in the MHSAA Division 1 State Championships in 2006. They
were also first academically in the State of Michigan for 2006.
Coach Smith was also honored by the
MITCA Cross Country Coaching Association as a Finalist for Division 1
Coach of the Year for Michigan.
Coach Smith has resided in South Lyon
since 1971. He is a 1974 graduate of South Lyon High and was inducted
into the South Lyon High School Hall of Fame and Alma College Hall of
Fame in 2005. In 2001, Coach Smith was Michigan's Cross Country Coach of
the Year, Regional Coach of the Year and one of 8 finalists for National
Coach of the Year. He is a teacher at Novi High School.
