Top Ten Again!
9th Place Finish at State Finals Gives Men's CC 8th Straight Top Ten Finish

11/7/2005 by Scott Olson   DETAILS

For the eighth straight year, the Novi Men's Cross Country Wildcats finished in the top 10 in the state. An amazing accomplishment, especially this year - there were no seniors at the top of the pack. Amazingly, four of the top ten teams were from Novi's own the Kensington Valley Conference.

It was officially 48 degrees at race time with calm winds and overcast skies at race time - a bit cool for spectators, but not bad for a cross country run.

The top runners for Novi were Mike Wheat (19th overall in team event at  16:04), Alex Prasad 55th, 16:39), Scott Wagner (60th,,16:40), Josh Lumley (96th, 16:59), Lukas Barnes (109th, 17:06), Kenny MacDonough (127th, 17:17) and Mike Place (163rd, 17:43).

Here's how the top ten teams scored:

1 Pinckney * 146
2 Ann Arbor Pioneer 176
3 Rockford 223
4 Walled Lake Central 249
5 Lake Orion 268
6 South Lyon * 270
7 Milford * 287
8 Portage Northern 337
9 Novi * 339
10 Rochester Adams 356

* KVC team

Coach Smith noted following the meet, "I am very, very happy with the results!  We were never ranked all season.  To achieve Top 10 status again, for the 8th year in a row, was very satisfying.  The guys did a super job at the meet, and all season.  I'm very proud of them!"

With the way these underdog, underclass men ran this season, that Top-10 is already looking good for next season too!
