Beating Expectations
Women's CC Team Finishes
3rd at KVC Meet
10/26/2005 by Alex Prasad
Not even Coach Reid of the
Women's Varsity Cross Country team saw this coming. Going into the KVC
meet, held Monday at Hudson Mills Metro Park, Coach Reid's goal was for
the team to finish ahead of Howell and Lakeland.
The Lady 'Cats did just
that; they beat Lakeland and Howell... and Hartland and South Lyon and
Pinckney! The third place finish, combined with the team's dual meet
record added up to a 4th place finish in the overall KVC standings.
Three runners earned
all-conference honors- two of them freshmen! Meghan Bannatz was first team
all-KVC with a 19:52 run that placed her 6th. Kelli Brown (20:14) and
Laura Sheeran (20:24), both freshmen, finished 12th and 14th respectively
and earned 2nd team all-KVC honors.
Emily Barton (20:41) earned
honorable mention with her 22nd place finish and Erica Howard was close
behind, coming it at 20:57. Erin Haynes and Andrea Kramer rounded out the
top seven for the Lady 'Cats.
The race featured all top 5
runners breaking 25 minutes and an impressive pack time of 65 seconds.
The team will next run Saturday at Schoolcraft College. There they'll be
running in Regionals and trying to place among the top three teams. If
they do that, they're off to Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in
Brooklyn for the State Meet!
