Novi Men's Cross Country Defeats Milford
Closest match of the season won by a tie-breaker!
10/20/2005 by Scott Olson
At Cass Benton Park in
Northville, Novi's home course, the Wildcats edged out the
Defending State Champion Milford Mavericks 28-28 by winning the
tie-breaker in one of the most exciting meets in recent memory.
In Michigan High School Cross Country, the sixth man is the
tie-breaker. For Novi, that was sophomore Josh Lumley coming
across the finish line just 2 seconds ahead of Milford's next
man.
Junior Mike Wheat
was first across the finish line for Novi with a time of 16:43.
That places him tied for 7th (with Eric Walle) as Junior in
Novi's history at Cass Benton, and that's 3 seconds faster what
Amol Huprikar ran as a junior two years ago.
Junior Alex Prasad was the second Wildcat with a very
respectable 17:05 - his personal best at Cass Benton. Lumley and
Scott Wagner were next, coming across at 17:15 and 17:17 - also
personal bests.
Freshman Luke Barnes was fifth
for Novi time of 17:38, a personal best which puts him fifth on
the All-Time List for Freshmen. That also means he's ahead of
Novi running legends Chris Toloff, Mark Avenius, Eric Walle, and
Brian Molloy!
Monday, the Wildcats head to
Hudson Mills (South Lyon) for the League Meet.
