Novi Men's Cross Country Falls to South Lyon 25-30
Wildcats and Lions each
finish with two guys in top four
10/5/2005 by Scott Olson and Coach Robert Smith
The Wildcat Men's Cross
Country team lost a close one 25-30 to the Lions at South Lyon
Tuesday. Although it's a loss for Novi, it was a solid finish
with each team having two guys in the top four. That's not too
shabby, considering South Lyon is currently the #3 ranked team
in the state for Division I Men's Cross Country.
Junior Mike Wheat was second
across the line, and first for Novi. Juniors Scott Wagner, Kenny
MacDonough, Alex Prasad and sophomore Josh Lumley were all in
the top ten overall - Novi's underclassmen competing
head-to-head against the #3 team in the state.
Coach Smith explains "Wheat ran an outstanding race to battle
Andrew Keller of South Lyon. His time of 17:08 in 85 degree heat
was 23 seconds faster than his previous best at Cass Benton this
year. Scott Wagner also ran a Cass Benton best to battle for 4th.
He out-kicked Erik Ringo at the finish line to secure his
position. The difference in the meet was that South Lyon took
places 5 and 6, where we took 7, 8, and 9. Those three runners
(Kenny MacDonough, Alex Prasad, and Josh Lumley) were only 1, 4
and 6 seconds respectively behind that 6th place
finish by Max Sadler of South Lyon. Also of note was the fact
that our 5th runner (Lumley) was almost a half-minute
ahead of South Lyons’ fifth runner."
Coach
Smith notes, "Although it is recorded as a loss in the records
book, I’m sure our strong performance against one of the states
best teams will cause other programs to take notice that the
Novi Wildcats are knocking on the door!"
Next up, the Wildcats compete
Saturday at the Oakland County meet.
