Novi Schools Sinking Fund Millage should be renewed
October 11, 2010 by
Sarah Elhage

The [Novi Community Schools] sinking fund is a 10-year millage and is set to expire in 2011. Without this, many of the buildings and school grounds would not be in as good of shape. The millage helps the district complete small construction projects and repairs. In order for our schools and district to stay in good shape, we need to renew the millage for another 10 years. With this, we will be able to keep growing as a district.

The sinking fund plays such a big part in the projects and programs that the Novi schools put on. For example, since 2001, the sinking fund has helped the district complete more than $7.6 million worth of projects. Also, the district used $1,361,762 from the sinking fund last school year for projects and has budgeted $818,000 worth for this school year. Without the sinking fund, projects would likely not happen because the district is already working with a depleted general fund. This issue is something that we really need to renew because without it, where would our school district be.

By what you have read, this renewal, which is on the November 2 ballot, is something we must act on. People might not think this is a big deal, but it is! We must renew this sinking fund millage! Most of you would like to keep the district safe and fund projects and activities. So help me in supporting the renewal for the sinking fund millage.

Sincerely,
Sarah Elhage
