We said: Has anyone figured out
why we need that extra lane onto I-275 at Eight Mile Road?
Seems like a lot of effort for nothing.
You said: Yes — at least I think so.
The right hand lane of eastbound
8 Mile backs up quite a bit, with a mix of people and trucks
turning right onto south-bound Haggerty, and those
proceeding straight onto I-275 south. Why should I or anyone
wait in a line of 25 cars, through 2 lights (it’s happened)
waiting for some slow moving truck to turn right, so I can
go straight?
The addition will allow the
lane next to the right lane to move onto SB I275 without the
hold up of people turning right from the right lane. It also
prevents the all too often occurrence of people cutting over
into that on ramp in front of others. The majority of
traffic in this direction — south-bound on Haggerty to
south-bound I-275, will move more independently and thus a
bit better. At least I think so…
THAT BEING SAID there’s a lot
more that money could have been used for, even at that
intersection…but that’s a story for another day. It’s an
area that nobody wants to take responsibility for because it
is the confluence of 2 counties and 4 cities. A rat’s nest
of finger pointing.
