NOVI - Multiple Novi Fire
Department units responded to a house fire on
Wintergreen Circle just south of Ten Mile Road on
Tuesday evening shortly after 8:00 p.m. after several
neighbors called 9-1-1.
Fire Department personnel
arrived on the scene within minutes to find a
two-story, single-family home engulfed in flames. Upon
their arrival, firefighters were told that a disabled
man may be inside.
Firefighters entered the home
and rescued the wheelchair-bound man. He
was subsequently transported to the U of M Burn Center
in Ann Arbor. The roof appears to have collapsed just
seconds after
firefighters rescued the man.
A
Novi firefighter who rescued the man was taken to Providence Park
Hospital in Novi. His injuries are
non-life-threatening.
The Novi Fire Department
brought the fire under control,
and received
assistance from the Lyon Township Fire Department. Novi
FD
remained on the scene for several additional hours to
ensure the fire was extinguished.
The
home, located on Wintergreen Circle just south of Ten
Mile Road and west of Taft Road, behind St. James Church, appears to be a
total loss.
The fire is under
investigation by the Novi Fire Department, in
cooperation with the Oakland County Sherriff’s Office.
UPDATE: As of Wednesday afternoon,
officials report that the Novi firefighter is doing well
and should be released from the hospital today, and that
the disabled man is still in critical condition at the
University Of Michigan Hospital.
