City of Novi Receives Two Awards for Quality of Life Enhancements
Novi recognized by Keep Michigan Beautiful Inc.
and the Michigan Association of Planning

October 25, 2011

Novi, Mich. —  The City of Novi is a proud recipient of two awards that represent the City’s commitment to enhancing quality of life for Novi residents.

A 2011 Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. Michigan Award was received in recognition of Fuerst Park. Fuerst Park is the western gateway to the Civic Center Campus, adjacent to the Novi Public Library, and features rolling topography, meandering walkways, pedestrian lighting, sculpture installations, 150-seat amphitheater, historic Township Hall, and two formal gardens placed where historic barns once stood on the property.

At the October 24 City Council Meeting, Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. president Bob Ramsey presented the plaque to Mayor David B. Landry and praised Fuerst Park as an “outstanding example of an urban park that has been targeted to be family-friendly.”

In 2011, the City of Novi completed an update to the Non-Motorized Master Plan. The plan, developed using a comprehensive study financed by a Federal Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant, includes implementation strategies designed to provide a safe, convenient, and enjoyable environment for bicyclists, and pedestrians and add to the more than 225 miles of pathways, sidewalks and bike lanes already in Novi.

The Non-Motorized Master Plan was awarded a Planning Excellence for Best Practice Award at the annual Michigan Association of Planning conference held in Grand Rapids earlier this month. Novi was the only community recognized at the annual Michigan Association of Planning for a non-motorized master plan.
