Novi Detectives, Sheriff's
Deputies, Feds and others conduct massive heroin raid - $150 million
worth
August 17, 2011
PONTIAC, MI – The
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, with the Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) Detroit Field Office and other local agencies,
seized the largest quantity of heroin ever discovered in the State
of Michigan, as well as large quantities of cocaine, and cash last
Friday, August 12th in the City of Pontiac.
Last Friday, deputies conducted a
traffic stop, discovering 2 kilos of suspected cocaine in the
vehicle. As a result, Detectives from the DEA’s Detroit Field Office
SONIC group (South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium), which
includes Novi Police detectives, conducted a follow up investigation
which resulted in a search warrant being authorized for a residence
on Pike Street in Pontiac.
During the search, 69 kilograms of
heroin and 10.5 kilograms of cocaine were discovered, with a street
value estimated around $150 million. Additionally, over $560,000 in
US currency was seized.
“The sheer quantity of drugs we
confiscated last week in our own backyard is startling. Drugs
destroy lives, and I am proud of our team working together with the
DEA and SONIC to get them off the street,” said Sheriff Bouchard.
“Additionally, the countless dollars that come from drug consumers
are routinely funneled into the pockets of narcotic traffickers and
fund other violent activity. We are not going to tolerate this kind
of activity in Oakland County.”
An ongoing investigation of this
seizure is being conducted by investigators from both the OCSO and
the DEA Detroit Field Office. No further details will be released at
this time as this is an ongoing DEA investigation.
Novi's Director of Public Safety and Police Chief David E. Molloy
explains that "multiple Novi Police Department assets" were involved
with the bust. Novi PD is a member of the SONIC unit. |
