City Attorney Thomas Schultz Receives 2010 “Distinguished Municipal
Attorney Award”

DEARBORN, MI – The City of Novi
announced this week that City Attorney Thomas Schultz received
the 2010 Distinguished Municipal Attorney Award given by the
Michigan Municipal League and the Michigan Association of Municipal
Attorneys (MAMA) on September 21 at the Dearborn Hyatt.
Mr. Schultz was recognized for his
achievements exemplifying the highest level of accomplishment in
representing municipal interests in Michigan courts. Mr. Schultz
received a congratulatory letter from MAMA President, Stephen K.
Postema, in which Mr. Postema acknowledged, “Your contributions as
municipal attorney for the City of Novi and other communities have
been numerous. Your work on matters involving ordinance drafting,
contract review, compliance with the Freedom of Information Act and
Open Meetings Act requirements, property taxation and special
assessments, property maintenance/nuisance abatement and the
acquisition of land for public purposes are only some of the ways
you have promoted and advanced the interests of Michigan
communities.”
Mr. Schultz, a partner at the law firm
Secrest Wardle in Farmington Hills, has concentrated his practice in
municipal law since starting with the firm in 1991. He is also the
City Attorney for the City of Farmington, and provides general
counsel services for several other Oakland County communities,
including the City of Farmington Hills and Bloomfield Township. He
has also acted as special counsel for other communities.
In addition to municipal work, Mr.
Schultz specializes in real estate transactions and litigation
involving zoning and land use approvals, purchase and sales
agreements, development approval documents, natural resource
regulation, and subdivision and condominium issues. He has assisted
clients in eminent domain proceedings, special assessments, real
property taxation, Brownfield Redevelopment projects, MEGA grants,
and other complex land use and redevelopment issues.
Mr. Schultz graduated from the
University of Detroit Law School in 1988. He holds an undergraduate
Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Detroit (1985). |
