LANSING — This year's MEAP test results show that Novi's kids
continue to excel as the state-wide averages continue to
increase.Novi's kids significantly exceeded
the state average in every subject, and in every grade. The most
significant differences were evident in the middle school subjects.
State-wide, scores dropped as students advanced. In Novi, this
difference was not nearly as pronounced, and in the case of science
and social studies, Novi's kid's scores actually improved through
middle school. The opposite was true state-wide.
All MEAP scores are divided into four
performance levels: Not Proficient, Partially Proficient,
Proficient, and Advanced. Students who place in either the
Proficient or Advanced levels are considered to be "proficient or
above" in that subject. Proficiency measures a student at a basic
level of knowledge in a given curriculum area. Michigan students are
tested each October on skills learned through the end of the
previous year.
The chart below summarizes how Novi's
kids did compared to the state average. The percent "proficient or
above" is shown here.
