report gives glowing review to Novi PD, suggests changes needed for
Novi FD

In a 179 page report
to be presented to Novi City Council at this evening's meeting, an
independent consulting firm gives high marks to Novi Police, while
suggesting changes are necessary to the Novi Fire Department's
organizational structure, and going so far as to say that the
current Novi FD development system is dysfunctional.
The report makes several recommendations
for Novi FD, including staffing 24x7 with career firefighters,
mixing paid-on-call and career firefighters on the same shifts, and
making Station #3 an on-call station only among other
recommendations.
The report also notes that Novi FD is staffed by "dedicated and well
trained personnel," and thus is seems that organizational and
scheduling changes are the key solutions to what they perceive as
the department's woes.
Of Novi PD, the report notes, "this
is clearly a department of which the city's residents and elected
officials can be proud," and makes note of the department's high
level of professionalism.
The report suggests some minor changes for the Police Department's
record keeping and scheduling, and also suggests a temporary
anticrime unit to focus on thefts.
