Another Novi student diagnosed with H1N1 (Swine) Flu
6/3/09

Novi Community Schools administration said this morning that another student, this time from Novi Middle School, has been diagnosed with H1N1 (Swine) Flu. The student is not currently in school, but rather is at home under physician's care.

On May 26, the schools announced that a Novi High School student had been diagnosed with the same flu.

According to school administration, the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) does not recommend closing schools in the event of a confirmed case, and all Novi schools are scheduled to be open as usual.

Administration further stated that school staff and parents/guardians should take several proactive measures to prevent or reduce the possibility of transmission of this virus, including:

  • Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.

  • Wash hands often to help protect the spread of germs.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home from school or work when sick.

  • Cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

  • Clean/disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

Further information from the CDC is available here.

School officials remind parents: "If your child is exhibiting flu like symptoms, please keep the child home until they are feeling well again. Consult your physician if necessary and if a case of swine influenza is confirmed, please contact your school principal immediately."
