Improving Michigan's Job Climate
December 20, 2011 by Senator Mike Kowall

As my first year representing the people of the 15th Senate District comes to a close, I am happy to report that Michigan is better today than it was a year ago.  MORE

The Increasing Need for Volunteers
December 15, 2011 by Lexie Capello

It is that time of year where everyone is out hustling and bustling to buy their loved ones gifts for the holidays. Every parent wants their children to have a wonderful holiday filled with loads of presents. For some people, their only wish is that their family can enjoy a pleasant meal. It is extremely important for people to remember to give not only to their loved ones, but also to the less fortunate.  MORE

Wayne Wrobel thanks voters and supporters
November 14, 2011 by Wayne Wrobel

I am honored and humbled to have been elected on November 8th to a new four year term on the Novi City Council by the residents of Novi. I would like to thank all those who voted for me and I appreciate their confidence in my abilities to help lead Novi into the future.  MORE

Non-funded sports athletes need assistance
November 4, 2011 by Mehma Singh

As we all know, college admission in much harder than it used to be. This is making students to work harder to get better GPA’s, do more volunteer hours, and join more extracurricular activities. Some point in almost every high school students life they choose to do at least one sport. As a student at Novi High School I understand how lucky I am to go to a school with such a wide variety of clubs and sports but some of the sports offered are non-funded. This means that the majority of the funds must be paid more by the athletes and their families. On top of the often times high fees, the athletes must get their own ride to and from games and practices.  MORE

Novi becoming an even safer city
November 1, 2011 by Bob Gatt

It was recently reported that the Michigan State Police were moving in with the Novi PD. On my way to work this morning, while most people are still sound asleep, I saw two fully marked MSP cars driving in our great city. One was on Meadowbrook Road and the other on Grand River. MORE

Novi HS student concerned about electronic distractions
October 28, 2011 by Rachel Russ

The Electronic Policy in Novi High School is a mistake. This 2011-2012 school year, NHS is trying a new personal Electronic Policy. Students are losing focus on the schoolwork and lectures. MORE

Best choices for a Winning Team
November 1, 2011 by Bob Gatt

One week from today, Novi voters will go to the polls to choose a new Mayor. I would be honored if you cast your vote for me. For nearly the past 40 years I have gone to work with one thought in mind. How can I make Novi a better, safer place for you and your families. For the last year, I have engaged in an honest, professional and transparent campaign to become your next Mayor.

Fischer the best choice for mayor
October 29, 2011 by Pat Holt

Novi has been very fortunate during difficult economic times in Michigan to have great leadership under Mayor David Landry. The incoming mayor will have to continue to navigate Novi through these challenging times and on to our next stage of growth as a city. I feel Justin Fischer's education and professional experience make him the best choice for mayor to ensure that Novi continues to grow and prosper.  MORE

Gatt will make a great mayor
10/26/2011 by Gary and Susan Allen

Bob Gatt will make a great mayor for the City of Novi. He has 37 years of service to the City as a police officer (now retired), a council member, and Mayor Pro-Tem. He has a demonstrated ability to work with people and to serve the community. Vote for experience and proven results. Vote for Bob Gatt on election day.

Support for Bob Gatt for Mayor
October 26, 2011 by Doug & Sue Harrington

For the past 37 years Bob Gatt has built a distinguished record of service to Novi . In 1975 he began a career in the Novi Police Department that would continue for 27 years and fueled his passion for our city. Residents have benefitted greatly from his efforts on City Council. Bob has been an outspoken advocate for public safety, and his business experience has helped Novi avert the financial problems that have plagued many surrounding communities.  MORE

Gatt the clear choice for Novi Mayor
October 25, 2011 by Ted Montgomery

The upcoming election will determine who leads Novi as we move forward into a critical time for this community. Rarely have I seen two candidates for mayor with such a huge gap between their experience and ability to lead. MORE

Gatt has the skills and experience
10/23/11 by Brian Burke, former Novi Council Member

Having served the City of Novi for many years in various positions on Boards and Commissions up to and including City Council, I have had the opportunity to serve with both candidates for Mayor.

Bob Gatt clearly has the leadership skills and experience that we need to ensure the continued growth and prosperity of Novi. Please join me in voting for Bob Gatt for Novi Mayor on Tuesday, Nov 8th.

Wrobel a strong advocate for the People
October 23, 2011 by Mike Lynch

I've had the privilege of working with Wayne Wrobel on the Novi Planning Commission for several years. During our time on the Planning Commission, I was continually impressed with Mr. Wrobel's grasp of the pertinent facts surrounding every proposal put before us. Wayne was always prepared to discuss and debate every aspect of each submittal and clearly made his decisions based on facts instead of emotion. Without exception, Mr. Wrobel was a very strong advocate for the citizens of Novi. MORE

Fischer brings fresh perspective
October 23, 2011 by Dr. James Cunningham

For the first time in recent memory we appear to have a real choice for our mayor. The Michigan economy, including Novi's, is at a crossroads. The choice we are about to make will be based on whether or not we think continuing to do things as we have in the past will be sufficient or would we benefit with some fresh thinking as we strive to move forward. While I believe both candidates are well qualified to be our mayor, the question is who will be the most qualified to lead us through the turbulent future we will face as we try to turn around our economy.  MORE

Fischer's business experience will serve the city well
October 23, 2011 by Charles and Becky Staab

It is with great pleasure Becky and I endorse the candidacy of Justin Fischer for mayor. We have seen him grow from a youngster to a financial leader at one of Michigan’s based corporations, Ford Motor Company. His financial and business expertise will serve the city well during these trying economic times as we continue to recover from the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.  MORE

Gatt well qualified to be Novi's Mayor
October 21, 2011 by Richard A. Faullkner, Novi PD, retired

I first met Bob Gatt when he was selected to serve on the Novi Police Department nearly 40 years ago. Mr. Gatt is honest, hard working, professional and a man of integrity.

I believe Mr. Gatt's 27 years experience with the Police Department and 11 years of devoted service on City Council well qualifies him to serve as your Mayor.

Wrobel helps Novi be all it can be
October 20, 2011 by Edmund P. Shaheen

I met Wayne Wrobel in 2003 while serving on the Willowbrook Farms Homeowners Board. Wayne has been active in the Novi Community for many years in a variety of ways. He has served on the Novi planning commission from 2004 to 2009 and the Novi Zoning Board of Appeals from 2007 to 2010. He has also been a member of the Novi City Council since 2010. Wayne is a great representative for the City of Novi and is grateful for the opportunity to serve the community.  MORE

Another colleague supports Wrobel
October 19, 2011 by Mark Pehrson

Having worked with Wayne Wrobel in the past on the Planning Commission, I know how hard works and how devoted he is to the city. That is why I endorse him for City Council. Wayne will look out for the best interests of the City in every decision he makes. Please place your vote for Wayne this November!

Supporting Wrobel for City Council
October 18, 2011 by Andy Gutman

I am writing in support of Wayne Wrobel, who is running for re-election for Novi City Council. Having worked with Wayne on the Novi Planning Commission, I can speak to the hard work, caring and dedication he brought to that role.  MORE

Novi HS: Bring back the block
October 12, 2011 by Julia Tituskin

Since Novi High School ditched the block schedule in the 2010-2011 school year, many students have said that they want it back. I, myself have never experienced block scheduling, but I believe it would be beneficial to the students and teachers if we brought it back. MORE

Supporting Gatt for Mayor - fair and truthful
October 10, 2011 by Ron Ferisse

I have known Bobby since childhood, I first ran into him (literally) while playing baseball. I was playing for Presentation of Our Lady and Bobby was catching for St Monica’s. I was rounding third trying to cross the plate in time to score the winning run. The ball got to the catcher (Bobby) about a second or so before I got to home plate. There was a collision and Bobby dropped the ball, thus I scored the winning run! While Bob and the whole team was disappointed in not winning the game, he walked up to me after and congratulated me and our whole team for the victory.  MORE

Are curfews for minors necessary?
October 7, 2011 by
Jessica Parvana

After doing some research, I have taken note that enforcing a curfew for minors does not in fact help. I’m assuming that the main reason the curfew law was put into effect was to reduce crime rate, but if it is not helping anything, then there is not a reason for having it. MORE

Student concerned about accidents near school
October 7, 2011 by Lexie Capello

I’ve witnessed three accidents at Novi High School’s entrance off Ten Mile Road, just east of Taft, in the past month (since school began). These accidents occurred because of the traffic going to and from school. Specifically, pulling in and out of the Parent Pick Up/Drop Off driveway is the most concerning. Something must be done in order to facilitate this process, and reduce the number of accidents.  MORE

It's not an easy walk to school
October 6, 2011 by Kevin Li

I am currently a freshman enrolled at Novi High School. Since moving to the district in fourth grade, it has impressed me greatly with its abundance of activities, unique clubs and programs, and its academic prestige, but an item of importance has come to my attention within the past few days.  MORE

Gatt an innovative leader with common sense
October 7, 2011 by Phillip C. Schoen

I am writing in support of Bob Gatt’s candidacy for the office of Mayor of Novi. People enter the political ring for many different reasons, some to further a personal or political agenda, others seek to "step up to the plate" of public service. Bob Gatt is part of the latter group. His primary motive is to serve the people of the city he loves and has served honorably for over 35 years, first as a Novi Police Officer, then as a council member.  MORE

Supporting Fischer, Staudt, Wrobel and Ibe
October 7, 2011 by Ron Boron

Please vote on November 8th and when you do remember endorsements are just that and do not necessarily mean that they are the best candidates and you should vote for the persons who have your best interest sitting at the Council desk and their ability to make decisions rather than just pandering to voters or special interest groups.  MORE

Staudt supports Gatt and Wrobel
October 5, 2011 by David Staudt, Novi City Council Member

Please join me in supporting Novi Mayor Pro-Tem Bob Gatt for Mayor and Novi City Council member Wayne Wrobel for City Council. I have been privileged to serve the past four years with Bob. His honesty, loyalty and professionalism have been a credit to Novi City Council. His selection as Mayor Pro Tem on three occasions by Mayor David Landry is an indication of the great respect Dave has for Bob.  MORE

Senator Kowall supports Gatt for Mayor
October 3, 2011 by Senator Mike Kowall

I’ve endorsed Bob Gatt for Novi Mayor. And I encourage you to endorse him with your vote on November 8th. Bob Gatt has spent nearly his entire adult life serving you and your family...  MORE

Stick with the facts - vote for Gatt
October 3, 2011 by
Tony & Barbara Zaguroli and Jerry MacEachern

Council member Margolis recently wrote a letter to the Novi News and to Novi.org supporting Justin Fischer. The letter praised Fischer and then went on to bash Mayor ProTem Gatt. We are writing to expose the hypocritical and biased views expressed in Margolis's letter. MORE

Supporting Gatt for Mayor - he listens
October 3, 2011 by Lynn Kocan

I am supporting Bob Gatt for Mayor of Novi. Quality of life in Novi is paramount to us all. Many times, unless and until you are directly affected by budgets, projects or plans of the City, you don’t know how important it is to have a representative on City Council who will not only hear your concerns, but who actually listens.  MORE

Coworker supports Gatt for Mayor
October 1, 2011 by Theodore Gibson

I am writing in support of Robert Gatt for Mayor. Robert Gatt has the experience necessary to help Novi continue to attract and support both families and businesses. He has shown his ability to work with both community and business leaders as a Sergeant in the Novi Police Department, Novi Mayor, Pro Tem, and in his current position as Oakland County Chief of Field Operations, Community Correction. MORE

Novi HS student thanks the community, and Busch's, for their support
October 1, 2011 by Rebecca Bartlett

I am writing to express my thanks to the Novi community for their support of the NHS Band Fall Can & Bottle drive. I am a freshman at Novi High School and am a flutist in the marching band. This event was held Saturday September 10, 2011 and it raised over $5000! It is hard to imagine that over 50, 000 cans and bottles were collected. MORE

Council member Margolis supports Fischer for Mayor
September 30, 2011 by Terry Margolis

This November, City of Novi voters will be making an important decision.  For the past 6 years we have been fortunate to have an outstanding Mayor who has led with integrity, intelligence and focus.  We are now faced with choosing the person to continue leading us forward. I know that when I enter the voting booth in November, I will be putting my full trust in Justin Fischer for Mayor.  MORE

Novi recognized for planning achievements
September 19, 2011 by Mark Pehrson

The Michigan Association of Planning (MAP) will be giving the City Novi a Planning Excellence Award for Best Practices for the Non-Motorized Master Plan. Congratulations to the Citizens of Novi, City Council, Planning Commission and Walkable Novi Committee, all of whom took an active part in the development of this “award winning” plan. MORE

Former colleague supports Gatt for Mayor
September 18, 2011 by Esther McInnis

Bob Gatt joined the Novi Police Department shortly after I was hired as a midnight dispatcher. A standard question asked of police applicants is, “Why do you want to become a police officer?’, and a common reply is, “To help people.” It was apparent that Bob Gatt meant what he said. Friendly to everyone, he took his job seriously. He was diligent in upholding the law, while being kind and considerate to all he met.  MORE

Life-long friend supports Gatt for Mayor
September 12, 2011 by David McWilliams

I've known Bob Gatt most of my life... from kindergarten, grade school, summer camp, high school and college, our first big adventure in Europe ... we even started our working careers at Ford Motor Company on the same day and in the same office!  MORE

Definitions matter in Sex Ed
June 1, 2011 by Willy Mena

The Novi Board of Education recently approved a new and expanded Sex Education curriculum. I'm a bit perplexed, though, by the final definition of the word "abstinence" used by the district in what is supposed to be an abstinence-based curriculum.  MORE

Proposed Sex Ed curriculum slightly off target
May 9, 2011 by Willy and Marita Mena

On Thursday night, our school board is scheduled to vote on whether to adopt a new sexual education curriculum, one that goes well beyond what is required by state mandate. MORE

The "wait and see" budget
May 9, 2011 by Brian Bartlett

Tonight City Council unveils the “wait and see” budget. Around $1 Million dollars in capital expenditures will be delayed until next January and voted upon by the new Council elected in November. The intent is if either the funds are not there, or the economy has not turned for the better, these expenditures hit the chopping block. MORE

Novi focused for continued success
April 7, 2011 by Clay Pearson, Novi City Manager

Whether you are a child learning to tie your shoes, a teenager parallel parking for the first time, or a veteran golfer like Phil Mickelson attempting to win your 39th tournament, the ability to focus is essential for achieving positive results. The same need for focus is true for an organization and a community wishing to succeed.  MORE

Supporting Gatt for Mayor of Novi
March 13, 2011 by Lawrence H. Holland

I was recently made aware of the fact that Bob Gatt is running for Mayor of Novi this fall. I was a resident of Novi for ten years from 1988 through 1998, during which I was the Police Chief of the City of Wixom. As a local Police Chief and resident I found it necessary and beneficial to work closely with my many friends and acquaintances in Novi. From Chief’s Lee Begole, Doug Schaefer to David Molloy, City Managers and Mayors/Council Members and our State House Representative, the relationships helped me in my performance as the Police Chief in Wixom.  MORE

Snow days hamper competition
March 6, 2011 by Brian Bartlett

February’s Presidents Day passed with another tough snow fall in the Metro Area. Similar to a Sunday snow fall and freeze in December, it turned into a prolonged road clearing. Novi was able to get back to normal sometime on Tuesday (2 days into the work week). Novi residents were asked to take solace that other communities took longer and needed assistance to make roads passable. But is this the competition we should be focusing on?  MORE

Supporting Gatt for Mayor
February 12, 2011 by Bernie Fratto

I am writing this missive to communicate my support for Bob Gatt as Novi's future Mayor. Although, I reside in Las Vegas now, I still own a home in Novi, and visit Michigan periodically. Suffice it to say, I look upon my 17-years as a Novi resident with great reverence and fond memories.   MORE

Not supporting any tax on taxes
December 3, 2010 by Bob Gatt, Novi City Council

During the recent interviews of the candidates who volunteered to replace Member Crawford on City Council, I asked the question about whether that person would support an administrative fee of 1% of their total property tax bill to be levied on the residents by the city administration.  MORE

Novi considering a tax on taxes?
December 1, 2010 by
Brian Bartlett

Yes it was nice to see that the "Emergency call fees" will be better defined prior to a Council decision. During the Council interviews, however, other TAXES or should we say FEES slipped into the discussion.  MORE

Novi Schools Sinking Fund Millage should be renewed
October 11, 2010 by
Sarah Elhage

The [Novi Community Schools] sinking fund is a 10-year millage and is set to expire in 2011. Without this, many of the buildings and school grounds would not be in as good of shape. The millage helps the district complete small construction projects and repairs. In order for our schools and district to stay in good shape, we need to renew the millage for another 10 years. With this, we will be able to keep growing as a district.  MORE

Wal-Mart a positive thing for Novi and the Town Center
October 11, 2010 by Matt Forche, NHS Student

The Novi Town Center is dying. I believe the addition of a Wal-Mart to this location would help Novi thrive. The amount of people coming to the Town Center from other cities is lowering. A Wal-Mart would do nothing but good for our city.  MORE

Student not pleased with new high school schedule
October 5, 2010 by Jennifer Hartmus

I am a student attending Novi High school and I believe that block scheduling should be put back into place. Since we started the 6 hour schedule, the classes have more students in them and I feel that my private learning time with the teacher is being greatly reduced. MORE

Not the right time for Wal-Mart in Novi
September 29, 2010 by Valerie Fraser

I realize that the community wants to bring a Wal-Mart store into the city of Novi. I also understand that this store would be built around Novi Road and Grand River. Many people may like the fact that this store would be coming into the area, but I must say that I believe it would cause many issues within the community. MORE

Novi's new Asst. City Manager: Not necessary, but respected
September 28, 2010 by David Staudt, Novi City Council

I am writing in response to The People’s Editorial regarding the hiring of a new Assistant City Manager. It is fair to question whether or not the City needs an Assistant City Manager. In light of the difficult finances facing the City and the layoffs that have resulted, every position in City government should be questioned. I personally felt that filing the position was not necessary, however...  MORE

Student agrees with school's new policy on personal electronic devices
September 27, 2010 by Michael Abreu

I am a sophomore at Novi High School and I am writing this to express my opinion about the new electronics policy. The former policy was that if an electronic device was seen by a teacher, it could be taken away and the student would have to pick it up at the main office after school.  MORE

City of Novi - Creating and Adapting
August 12, 2010 by Clay Pearson, Novi City Manager

Have you ever seen the devices made up on the vintage television show, MacGyver, or read about the adaptations those astronauts of Apollo XIII made to safely land? They make the best with what they’ve got. When you get creative, you will be amazed at what you can make with just a little.  MORE

Mandate foreign language classes in elementary schools
July 20, 2010 by Tyler Bang, Novi

My name is Tyler (12). My brother, Ethan (8), and I used to live in Shanghai, China. Even though we attended an American private school we were required to take Chinese language classes. Throughout the years we lived there, I started to catch on, but my younger brother was learning faster than me. At one point, my little brother helped my high school sister with her Chinese homework!

This shows that the younger kids are, the faster they learn a language. If we have mandatory foreign language classes for elementary schools, kids would learn a lot. Despite the monetary costs, having mandatory foreign language classes for elementary schools would be beneficial to the students and reflect well on the community.

Reply - July 20, 2010

What Tyler is saying is totally accurate. It is much easier to learn a second language earlier in life. Research supports his observation. Novi's Administration continues to evaluate our entire curriculum and identify which subjects are taught K-12. It is unfortunate that we have financial constraints that result in making trade-offs in terms of curriculum offerings.

New Novi Library a phenomenon of monumental proportions
June 3, 2010 by Kathy Crawford

At a time when most news is depressing and the majority of Michigan communities are reeling from unprecedented cutbacks, the opening of the new Novi Library is a phenomenon of monumental proportions.  MORE

Is Walmart a deal with the devil for Novi?
May 12, 2010 by Michael Salemi

There is no question that Novi Town Center, a well-located and well-placed retail development, has suffered from fleeing tenants and vacancy that wasn’t right before our larger economic issues. Part of its problem is the lack of anchor stores, and once they go, the smaller stores are soon to follow.  MORE

Is Brighthouse service as fast as advertised?
May 11, 2010 by Ed Coury

I have been subscribing to Brighthouse Networks' Road Runner High Speed Internet Service with Turbo Boost for about three months. The company says I should expect speeds of up to 20 or 22 megabytes per second (Mbps). Unfortunately, I am averaging around 10 Mpbs, usually less.   MORE

Student displeased with cuts
May 5, 2010 by Rachel Dooley

Novi High School's budget cuts have done absolutely no good for anyone. Well, except for the district itself. The budget cuts are helping to bring them out of debt. But as for the students and faculty, its a completely different story. Novi Schools are facing $6.7 million in budget cuts. As a result of these budget cuts, 75 staff members are dealing with job losses. And as for the teachers that are not losing their job, they have to conform to a completely new teaching style, a new schedule, and worse of all, a much higher number of students per class.   MORE

Senior displeased with increases
May 5, 2010 by Helene S. Meizler

I am a senior citizen living at Meadowbrook Commons. I do not have a car and live on Social Security only. I also know that Novi is in a budget crunch, but to raise the rent $20.00 per month and transportation within the city to $4.00 each way is in my estimation outrageous. We are also expected to pay $4.00 to go to the Holy Family Church and Busch's. These places should be much less, maybe $1.00.

A Sound Offense and Defense... key to Novi’s team
March 11, 2010 by Clay Pearson, Novi City Manager

Spring is just around the corner and soon children of all ages will be playing soccer on the numerous fields in Novi, with friends and family cheering them on….dreaming of, per chance, one day winning a World Cup.  And, anyone who knows soccer, or any team sport for that matter, knows a winning team is made up of a sound offense and sound defense.  It takes both to make a successful team.  It may sound simple, but that is how we are looking at this year’s budget and the challenges which lie ahead here in Novi.

Thank you, Chief Smith

Thanks to our elected reps
12/12/09 by Dave Staudt

I want to commend Rep Hugh Crawford and State Senator Nancy Cassis for their support of the smoking ban in most public places that was passed yesterday. This is long overdue and was passed with strong bi-partisan support. No longer will Michigan residents who abhor second hand smoke have to make decisions about going to a bar or restaurant based on whether they allow smoking. I am looking forward to going out for the evening and not coming home smelling of smoke. Thanks again to our elected representatives in Lansing for doing the right thing.

Congratulations, and thanks
11/6/2009 by Wayne Wrobel

Congratulations to Mayor Landry and City Council Members Margolis and Mutch on their recent re-election and to Justin Fischer for his election to the City Council. I would also like to thank all the Novi residents who supported and voted for me in my attempt to be elected to the Novi City Council. I was honored to have your support.

Supporting the positive candidates
10/17/2009 by Kathy Crawford, Novi City Council Member

Campaign rhetoric speaks volumes. Candidates espousing everything they are AGAINST do not make effective leaders for this city. Candidate comments that plant seeds of doubt about the honesty and integrity of people currently serving on Boards and Commissions as well as city administrators, are irresponsible, naive and insulting.  MORE

Why the new lane at 8 Mile and I-275?

Cap the film credits to reduce
cut to schools
10/6/2009 by State Senator Nancy Cassis

Michigan faces a $2.8 billion deficit for 2010, including a $1 billion shortfall in the School Aid Fund. Using more than $550 million in federal stimulus dollars will help bridge the gap, but the shortfall still requires a $218 per-pupil reduction. I have a way to reduce that cut. MORE

Hey Brighthouse, turn down the volume!
10/1/09 by John Crawford

Wayne Wrobel for Novi City Council
9/28/2009 by Wayne Wrobel

My name is Wayne Wrobel and I am running for a seat on the Novi City Council. I have been a homeowner in Novi for over 25 years and want to help Novi continue to prosper. In my opinion, prosperity can be achieved by strictly following two guiding principles: Fiscal responsibility and adherence to the existing Master Plan for Land use. City government is a business and it needs to run like a business.

Thank you Kathleen for remembering Novi's past
7/13/09 by Carol Jean Crawford

Thank you KATHLEEN for your comments on Mrs. Bell. I often feel little attention is paid to our long-time residents. Although I did not know her, I am certainly familiar with her father and husband. I often went with my grandpa to get his fishing or hunting license at Mr. Trickey's store. Thanks again for reminding our community Novi's past is as important as its future.

Remembering Novi's past
7/6/09 by Kathy Crawford

As many Novi residents enjoyed the holiday with parades, picnics and fireworks on the Fourth of July, I attended the funeral of life-long resident Laree Bell, age 83. I scanned the faces in the sanctuary of the Novi United Methodist Church and was reminded that “Novi Old-timers” are leaving us at a rate as accelerated as WWII vets.  MORE

Novi could handle the Auto Show
6/19/2009 by Bob Gatt

From all news accounts, it appears as if the City of Detroit will come to their senses and claim the monies available to revamp Cobo Hall, thus keeping the North American International Auto Show there. Good. That’s where it belongs...  MORE

The People should always come first sir
6/11/09 by Bob Gatt

I read Chuck Tindall's Novi News letter last week in disbelief. Is this the same Chuck Tindall who challenged Hugh Crawford to represent THIS CITY, THIS DISTRICT in last year's Michigan House race? If so, why in the world is he against Novi as an alternative to Detroit in order to keep the North American International Auto Show in Michigan? MORE

Keep the North American International Auto Show in Automation Alley
5/21/2009 by State Representative Hugh Crawford

Southeastern Michigan is on the cusp of losing one of our treasured events - the North American International Auto Show. The future of NAIAS has been jeopardized by politicking games, and now, Motor City has been given a choice -- act now or risk losing the auto show at Cobo to other states. If we want to keep the NAIAS in the heart of the automobile capital, we have to act now.  MORE

I wish to ask one question of all who read this: What was your main reason for choosing Novi as the community you wished to raise your children in? Let me offer the following. As a twenty-year plus resident of this community, I know what my answer to this question was twenty some years ago. It was for the education and safety of my two girls. I personally am concerned for my interests in Novi, but by far more importantly, I am concerned for our children, and their future in this, let me say, “unique” community. Let’s not let privatization of any portion of the Novi schools degrade why we have all come to Novi for.  MORE

Former Novi HS student attributes success to a top-notch education
5/6/09 by RJ Larese, Casting Director, "Deal or No Deal"

Without the Broadcasting, Choir, Theatre, Yearbook, and Newspaper programs at Novi High School, there is absolutely no way I would be where I am today. It’s been five years since I walked through the doors of NHS as a student and I reflect on my experiences in the Arts Programs on a daily basis.  MORE

Supporting an old friend

And so, the story breaks about a local Novi man who was charged with indecent exposure. And, had it not been for the man's name, it wouldn't have made it into any news story and no one would care. In fact, during my nearly 30 years of police work, I can remember 100's of instances similar in nature to this one. Some of them may have involved your son, or your daughter. Or perhaps, it was you?

Novi High School grad writes in supports of arts programs
4/26/2009 by Bryan Dechart

My name is Bryan Dechart. I am a 2005 graduate of Novi High School and a 2009 graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. I do not have words in my vocabulary positive enough to describe my appreciation and support for the departments of Drama, Journalism, and Broadcasting at NHS, nor the words negative enough to describe my feelings regarding the lack of respect for them as the Board of Education so blatantly leads them to the chopping block.  MORE

Novi Signature Park: Sign of Hope
4/21/2009 by Dennis L. Schornack, Executive Director,
                 Michigan Recreation and Park Assoc.

To paraphrase philosopher Edmund Burke: “To make us love our city, our city ought to be lovely.” Lovely cities are places where people want to live, work and raise a family. They are places where businesses want start, stay, and expand.

On May 5, voters in the City of Novi can choose to make their city a lovely place by making a modest investment in a Signature Park – a park that reflects the unique character and identity of the community and an investment that will pay dividends to present and future generations.  MORE

Support the Novi Signature Park
4/15/09 by Brian Burke, Novi City Council

On Tuesday May 5th, we will have an opportunity to make a decision on an investment that will serve Novi for many generations to come. It's no secret that recent national studies show that Parks help attract both businesses and residents to new communities. This Signature Park will assist Novi in its continued effort to diversify the tax base, create economic development and improve the quality of life of its residents.  MORE

Novi City Manager Delivers Recommended Budget
4/13/2009 by Novi City Manager Clay Pearson

“When driving at night, you can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way”  - E.L. Doctorow

The recommended City of Novi budget was released this week, building upon the plans and expectations of our elected Mayor and City Council and hundreds of citizens who volunteer their time on a board or commission. Those plans are supported by a first-rate staff at the City of Novi who are dedicated to providing essential services of police and fire, roads maintenance and construction, parks and recreation, water and sewer, forestry, library, development services, and much more of the support that Novi residents and businesses rely upon every day.
