Our choices for the Primary Election
July 28, 2008

Next Tuesday is Primary Election day. Here are our choices for this election year:

State Representative Craig DeRoche is term-limited, and well-known Novi resident and Oakland County Commissioner Hugh Crawford is running for his current seat on the Republican side of the State Representative ticket against three relative unknowns. Hugh Crawford clearly has the edge.

With Crawford running for State House, two high-quality Novi candidates have stepped up to run for Crawford's job. Mayor Pro-Tem Kim Capello is running against former Novi Mayor Lou Csordas and Fred Schlemmer for the Republican side of the Oakland County Commissioner ticket.

Capello and Csordas are both well known in Novi, are well respected, and we believe either would do an excellent job. While Csordas does have local government and employee benefits experience, we believe attorney Kim Capello has the edge when it comes to ensuring Novi is best served at the county level. He has consistently served the People of Novi for many years in a quality manner, and will surely continue to do so.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard has years of experience in government and law enforcement, and has served Oakland County well. He certainly deserves to be reelected.

For Prosecuting Attorney, Randy Secontine has 17 years of experience in the prosecutor's office. He understands what needs to be done, and how to do it. Neither of the other candidates have near his level of experience in running such a complex operation. Secontine has our vote.

On the Democratic side, for U.S. House of Representatives former Novi City Manager Edward Kriewall is running against attorney Joseph Larkin. Joseph Larkin is clearly more qualified to serve our region in Washington D.C.

Voters will also be asked to approve funding of a zoo authority to help keep the Detroit Zoo afloat. It's less than $1 a month for an average home. Vote Yes to support the Detroit Zoo.

We the People are pleased to have such quality candidates running for elected office in Novi and Oakland County. Please do your part - get out and vote on Tuesday, August 5th.

Also, be sure to check the city's website as some voting locations have been changed.
