Real life in Novi by a life-long

The Haunted History of
Novi’s Shiro Restaurant

Built back in 1929 when there wasn’t much of anything it what was to become Novi, a man named Charles Rogers built a home he named White House Manor. This house was built for Rogers’ wife, Harriet Thornton. Since the Rogers family departed the home, this mansion has been many different things, but many people say that one thing it has been since then, and still is today, is haunted.

The home was purchased by the Crusoe family after the last Rogers passed away in 1942. They lived there for 10 years, and then from 1973 until 1981 the house stood empty until the Cervi brothers bought the home and turned it into a restaurant. They called it “The White House Manor,” naming it after the Rogers family home.

The Cervi brothers often talked about strange events happening within the home. They had heard sounds of foot steps on the vacant third floor. They also noticed that when they would leave the restaurant after closing up and turning all the lights off, that when they got out the front door and to their cars that they would look up and the lights of the third floor would be on.

In 1984, the Cervi brothers shut down the White House Manor. It was re-opened by new owners in 1987 and renamed “Home Sweet Home.” Still strange occurrences had been happening.

Once again, in 1998, the restaurant was re-named and built into an establishment called “Shiro.” Until this day it is still said to be haunted; but who really knows?

Today, Shiro is a wonderful Japanese restaurant. The restaurant is unique and elegant, and it’s nice place to visit to try something different.  (REVIEW)

Shiro is located on the north side of Nine Mile Road just east of Novi Road. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out. And this Halloween season might just be the perfect time to try it out too!
